A few weeks ago, when Carroll realized that his time was growing short he prepared a letter expressing his final wishes. Vintage Carroll, he expressly requests that there be no funeral or memorial service and no donations to charities. Here are some excerpts from his letter that I thought it appropriate to post on this site.

"I have given a lot of thought to this matter and have decided that I do not want to have a funeral. I do not want to inconvenience people I respect and like..."

"All of my life I have been a very simple and plain guy. Funerals are never happy and I do not want the fanfare that would go with this type of service...."

Please do not send flowers or donate monies to my favorite charities as I have already donated monies. Also: I do not want a memorial service. My friends will remember me and that is all I care for. I would appreciate it if the people that truly care pray for my soul. You may remember me any way you wish to..."

"To the people that that have been important in my life, I wish all of the best for you and yours."

"Good-bye"
